s he is subconsciously admitting that domestic violence(particularly against women) is a real epidemic among relationships. He is acting like that's no big deal, compared to children growing up without their parents being together. If your father commits a violent crime against your mother, shouldn't he be in prison? Never mind a divorce. In my world, if a man beats his wife/girlfriend, a break up, divorce or even prison time wouldn't be good enough. Ideally, he should be lynched by a vigilante mob.
